Lantern FestColourPop Lantern Fest Super Shock Cheek (Highlighter) ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a medium, golden peach with warmer undertones and a smooth, luminous sheen. It had more buildable coverage applied with a stippling brush and more opaque coverage applied with fingertips, as marketed. The texture was smooth, lightly emollient to the touch, but it turned to a more powder-like finish and feel when it came into contact with skin. The highlighter applied evenly to bare skin as well as over foundation as it wasn’t prone to lifting it up. It stayed on nicely for nine and a half hours before fading visibly. Top Dupes

DefianceAuric Defiance Smoke Reflect Eye Shadow Duo ($39.00 for 0.23 oz.) contains a sparkly, golden powder eyeshadow and a darker, bronzy cream eyeshadow. This was the best-performing duo of the three launched at the time of the review, as the sparkly eyeshadow was intense, shiny, and sparkling with a little more slip to it, which led to better adhesion and wear, and the cream eyeshadow was blendable, pigmented, and long-wearing. As a FYI, mine will be replaced at some point but the product sold through quickly, so it may be a bit before I get the replacement. While the texture of the cream eyeshadow was different–more putty like–I still found it wore well (I personally prefer putty-like creams, ha!). I’ll update this review once I get a replacement, but I didn’t want to let it go too long as I know some are looking for dupes and the like. AURIC said they were going to look into it to make sure it was a one-off and not an issue, as well (this was before launch). Defiance (Powder)Defiance (Powder) is a light, peachy gold with an intense, sparkly finish that was particularly shiny. It had a translucent base, as marketed, which yielded more medium, buildable coverage applied dry and semi-opaque, buildable coverage applied with a dampened brush. The texture was lightly emollient, smooth to the touch, but it was thinner and not at all heavy/thick, which kept it from emphasizing lid texture. There was almost no fallout during application or blending. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours with light fallout over time. Formula Overview- It is supposed to be a "light-reflecting" eyeshadow with "high-shine pearls" that can be used alone or as a top coat. The brand describes them as having "micro-glitter," though only one of the shades reviewed contain plastic (PET) glitter. They had more translucent bases, which was as described, but there was a lot of sparkle/shimmer, so the result was more medium to opaque, depending on the shade. The consistency was slightly drier, more firmly-packed into the pan overall with more of a glide than a denser, thicker silicone-like feel (like some more intense metallic formulas these days). One shade was noticeably drier/more firmly-pressed to the point where it seemed to impact the application/coverage relative to the other two shades. They applied with minimal fallout and had good adhesion on bare skin, but they are best applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush with a pressing/patting motion for the most minimal fallout and the most even lay down of product. I found that I had to be careful blending out the edges with a fluffier, drier brush as fallout was more likely to occur then. They lasted around eight hours and had light fallout over time. Based on the line-up at review, they should work alone, as more of a sheer wash of sparkle, as well as more packed on as a standalone powder eyeshadow or patted over the coordinating cream eyeshadows they sit on top of. Browse all of our Auric Smoke Reflect Powder Eye Shadow swatches. Defiance (Cream)Defiance (Cream) is a light-medium bronze with subtle, warmer undertones and a pearly sheen. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and diffused well along the edges. The one I received seemed to have a slightly loose cap, and the product was drier, though it didn’t feel dried out to me, but it did have a noticeably different texture and application. AURIC is replacing mine, but as it sold out quickly, I’m not sure when a replacement will come; I didn’t find that it really impacted the application, coverage, or wear. If I didn’t have the other two cream shadows, I don’t know that it would have felt “off” at all. It had a more putty-like consistency, where one could press on it and see an indent, and it was less emollient. It didn’t have as noticeable of a drying time either, as it was more powder-like when it came into contact with my skin, which made it easier to apply and prevented it from settling into creases like other shades during that early dry down period. It stayed on well for nine hours on me before fading a bit. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview/0.17 oz. - $0.00 Per Ounce It is supposed to be "smooth, longwear[ing], [and] creaseless" cream eyeshadow. The texture was a cross between a traditional cream eyeshadow (which can feel wetter and thinner) and an airier, more whipped mousse. It was an intensely pigmented formula where one did not need a lot of product to get an even layer of product on the eye. They had a moderate dry down time; they did dry down to a more powder-like finish that wasn't budge-proof--I could still soften the edges a bit--but had a tendency to settle into my fine lines on the inner lid area as it was drying down, so I had to buff the product back out to even the product out. Once I did this, it didn't keep creasing after the dry down. If I applied and buffed out the product as a sheerer layer of product, then this wasn't an issue as less product was more apt to dry down fairly quickly compared to a more opaque layer of product. The consistency dried down but wasn't thick, heavy, or inflexible, so it paired well with other powder eyeshadows (not just the one included with it) and could be used as an eyeshadow base or eyeliner as well. Aside from the initial creasing (which I could blend/buff out) as it was drying down, once it dried down, I didn't get creasing until the eight to nine hour mark. The formula was terrible, in general, and it was even worse with the larger bits of sparkle (the other shades in the range didn’t seem to have noticeable sparkle) as it gave the base more to grab onto and create larger pill-like bits that had to be crushed and mashed on the skin to smooth out even half-decently. The texture was lightweight, whipped, and mousse-like with an airiness and velvety glide but not the conventional moistness of a cream blush. It turned powder-like when it came into contact with skin, but it had no real time to diffuse or blend out as it just kind of stuck to skin and lifted up and away when one attempted to blend or spread it out. This occurred with fingertips, brushes, and sponges whether applied over bare skin or over prepped skin (from foundation to set foundation). The “best” results I had were gently dabbed on with a fingertip on bare skin and blended out with leftover foundation (on a brush), but it was still uneven and splotchy. It had sheer coverage, but it wasn’t buildable as claimed. What little product transferred to my skin seemed to fade visibly after six hours of wear. Formula Overview$30.00/0.21 oz. - $142.86 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have a "soft matte finish" with "sheer, buildable coverage" that is "perfectly diffused" and "beautifully blends and blurs for second-skin color that lasts." Per the brand, the formula can be applied with fingertips or a brush, and I didn't have good luck with fingertips at all. A brush was marginally better, but I failed to achieve even coverage with any method or tool that I tried. The amount of pressure one needed to get a smooth application just did not lend itself for actual cheek application; I could get somewhat smoother, more even coverage on my arm, where I could really push and rub at my skin, but it's not practical to do that to one's cheek (which is less of a flat surface), particularly if one has any base products on (welcome to Lift City!). The texture of the blush felt airy and mousse-like, but it immediately pilled upon contact of my skin, and I just couldn't get it to smooth out in practice. I tried applying the product to the back of my hand to try and warm it up, but it was quick to dry down and still quite pilled, and by the time I transferred product to my skin, there was almost no coverage available. If I tried to build up coverage, the initial layer just pushed or lifted off my skin, so everything looked worse the more I fussed with it. What little product translated (and as poor as it looked on), it stayed there for six to seven hours before fading. They delivered on the sheer coverage, but they weren't buildable, blendable, smoothing, blurring, or long-wearing. Browse all of our NARS Air Matte Blush swatches. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied fairly evenly, but the slightly thicker consistency had a tendency to separate along my lip lines and settle into them. The consistency was lightly creamy, denser but not uncomfortable to apply. The settling worsened over the four hours the lipstick lasted for, though the formula was lightly hydrating to wear, so it wasn’t drying at least. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$25.00/0.14 oz. - $178.57 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to "lightweight" with a "creamy" texture and a "softly luminous finish" that feels "deeply hydrating." There was no reference to coverage, but the promotional swatches showed opaque coverage. The range is broken up into four undertones: Beige (suits neutral, warm, red skin tones), Neutral Beige (suits all skin tones), Neutral Pink (suits all skin tones), and Pink (suits warm and yellow skin tones). The shades also range from very light to deep so that there's one that will "flatter each and every skin tone." They are pigmented with semi-opaque to opaque coverage in a single layer, and the majority of the shades applied evenly to my lips. They have a denser, more velvety formula that had some creaminess to them without feeling traditionally wet or emollient. The formula has satin-to-cream finish that wears down to a semi-matte finish within two to three hours or can be quickly blotted down if preferred. I noticed that most shades had a bit of product that sank into my deeper lip lines with it often not being noticeable in person, just in the close-up photos, but lighter shades were more likely to be visible in person as well as in the close-up photos. They wore between four and six hours, were lightly hydrating to non-drying, and wore away evenly. The formula has a fairly strong, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste. It had medium, buildable pigmentation, which fell short of the formula’s claims, that applied evenly and smoothly to my lips. The texture had a smooth, almost balm-like feel as it went on initially, but it developed light tackiness over time and “set” to a satin finish that turned more matte as it wore on. This type of color and finish can be harder to find, but like other shades in the formula, this one doesn’t really align with how it’s marketed. It wore well for six hours and was very hydrating to wear, but it was supposed to last for far longer, unfortunately! FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$40.00/0.18 oz. - $222.22 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have "ultra-intense colour with longwearing satin shine in one swipe" that lasts up to "12 hours" and is comfortable for up to "8 hours." The majority of shades I tested had more medium to semi-opaque coverage in one layer, which could be built up by applying a second layer. The consistency felt more emollient and like a liquid lip balm initially, and within 30 seconds, it transformed to something slightly thicker, denser, and tackier, which helped to keep the product in place better. I also felt like over time, the color seemed to look more even and was less likely to sit in my lip lines, but this could take an hour or longer to be visible. It was felt rather lightweight and had more of that "satin shine" the brand claimed after an hour or two of wear, and it felt significantly less tacky. There are other formulas on the market that have a similar start and finish in feel (going from something thinner to something thicker and tackier), but the tackiness wearing down faster with Chanel's formula ended up reducing longevity significantly. The color lasted between five and seven hours with deeper, more pigmented and brighter shades lasting longer than lighter ones. They did not survive that well through a meal, and for something that is marketed as lasting up to 12 hours, I'd expect better survivability. They were very comfortable and hydrating to wear, though, and they left my lips in better condition after wearing different shades over a few days. They had a floral scent but didn't yield a noticeable taste for me. And no, these are nothing like the previously-released Rouge Allure Laque formula. The older formula has more like a literal liquid lipstick, so it was creamier, thicker, and the formula didn't change or set after a minute or so; at most, it wore down to a more satin to semi-matte finish after a few hours of wear (as any glossier lipstick might). While they share the same name, they're really different types of formulas. Browse all of our Chanel Rouge Allure Laque (2020) swatches. It had intense color coverage that adhered well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of color that remained blendable along the edges. The texture was lightly emollient, cream-like to the touch, but dense and spongy as the formula is designed to be. It felt more powder-like once it came into contact with my skin. Formula Overview$6.00/0.07 oz. - $85.71 Per Ounce ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented. From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones). The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable. They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with. The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply. Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter. They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter). They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter). It had opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, which applied fairly evenly to my lower lash line. I found that the texture was more prone to thickening/bunching up as it was a little thicker and not as emollient compared to most eyeliners I reach for, though. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly. Top Dupes

Both shades had richer pigmentation, were blendable, and stayed on for eight and a half hours. I loved the two shades together as well (on a personal level), and I slipped it into my vanity drawer (hence the editor’s recommended tag!).

Fleurs de Printemps (Highlighter)Fleurs de Printemps (Highlighter) is a medium, pink-peach with moderate, warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, though it was easy to apply less if desired by using a lighter hand as it wasn’t powdery in the pan. The formula felt like a gel-powder hybrid, which works best with a moderately dense brush as it has a firmer, denser feel but has no powderiness and “melts” onto skin when applied. The powder applied evenly to bare skin, blended out with ease, and had a glowing finish that didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture and looked particularly seamless. It wore well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading. Top Dupes

Fleurs de Printemps (Blush)Fleurs de Printemps (Blush) is a brighter, medium-dark coral with warmer, more orange undertones and a satin finish. The more I buffed and blended out the powder on my skin, the more satin-like the finish became–glowing but not overtly shimmery. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, but the firmer, denser consistency (though not stiff!) made it easy to use a lighter hand for more buildable coverage if preferred. It had a more gel-powder hybrid kind of formula, which means that the texture feels firmer, but it has no powderiness and almost “melts” on skin for a particularly seamless look. The color applied evenly and blended out effortlessly. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit. Top Dupes
