Beige-ing BeautyMAC Beige-ing Beauty Radiant Matte Bronzing Face Powder ($32.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a light brown with muted, warm yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had medium, buildable pigmentation (it was described as sheer-to-buildable) that took three layers to get to more near-opaque coverage. The texture was soft, silky, and blendable without being too powdery nor too firmly pressed into the pan. I felt like the color darkened a touch when applied to my bare skin, but it applied evenly and diffused easily along the edges. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours (marketed for 12, though!) before fading noticeably. Top Dupes

Now, let’s dive into readers’ most loved and most wanted products from this past week along with recently shared looks and color stories. Most LovedMost Recent LooksMost Recent Color Storiesvia Temptalia https://ift.tt/3gOQH2G Cote d'AmourMAC Cote d’Amour Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a brighter, raspberry pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen with very, very faint pearl–the kind that adds luminosity but not overt shimmer. The consistency was lightly emollient, wet without being too slippery, and felt lightweight, which made it comfortable to apply in a single layer as it didn’t drag or tug on my lips. It had good color coverage that could be built up to full coverage. The color stayed on nicely for five hours and felt lightly hydrating over time. Formula Overview$20.00/0.1 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying. Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying. The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. Set to SizzleMAC Set to Sizzle Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a dusty, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones and a lightly pearlized, luminous finish. It had good pigmentation in a single pass, which adhered fairly evenly but there was a smidgen of streaking along the outer edge due to the slip. The consistency felt lightweight, creamy with a touch of tackiness, but it wasn’t too emollient that it was high-maintenance to wear. There was a smidgen of product that sank into my deeper lip lines when I looked back on the close-ups but wasn’t visible to me in person. It wore well for four and a half hours and felt moisturizing while worn. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

WhamMAC Wham Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with strong, warm undertones and a glittering finish that seemed like a mix of copper, pink, and gold glitter bits. It was a finer glitter, so while I could feel the glittery texture as it was applied, it wasn’t rough or uncomfortable to use or to wear. It was less noticeable in texture on than in the tube, as I barely felt it when I pressed my lips together. The consistency was lightly emollient, lightweight, and had moderate slip but it wasn’t prone to settling noticeably into my lip lines. It had medium coverage that didn’t build up beyond that. It lasted well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

All of the shades performed consistently with the brand’s past formulas; the domed shades, which are often called the “special” shades by fans have a denser, firmer feel but are blendable and easy to work with. The mattes were denser, more substantial, and very pigmented but both were even easier to work with than some past mattes. Skinshow Rose Opal was a little thicker in texture, which was one of very few “cons” across the palette. Last I heard, while watching one of the brand’s Instagram lives, it was undetermined whether this palette was going to be permanent or not (Sephora will carry the black packaging and has that marked as limited edition). It’s still in stock while I’m writing this–the evening prior to it being published!–which shows that, hopefully, the brand has improved their inventory since last fall!

Divine Rose II LooksSkinshow Rose OpalSkinshow Rose Opal has a soft, peachy gold base with iridescent, pink-to-violet shifting pearl. The texture was denser and a little thicker, which I found made it work better with flat, shader brushes rather than anything fluffy, as fluffier brushes didn’t distribute and smooth out the product as well. It had excellent pigmentation that did spread and blend well so long as I used the right brush. There was fading present after nine hours of wear. Formula Overview$25.00/0.04 oz. - $625.00 Per Ounce Pat McGrath's eyeshadows are, generally, supposed to be "super-saturated" with "creamy, soft textures" and "extreme blendability and adherence without creasing." A lot of how well they perform (and to some degree, how they are supposed to be applied and marketed) depends on the type of shades, but by and large, the eyeshadows perform very much as they are described. The brand released single eyeshadows in March 2019, and the shades have been consistent in quality, look, and feel. They are not removable, unfortunately, so one would have to depot like any other single eyeshadow--I tried using tweezers and lifting on several shades to no avail. The lids are held closed by a weak magnet, so I'm not sure they're as secure as most single eyeshadow compacts in my stash--I wish it really locked in, but there's definitely a magnet that pulls the lid down if it's within 2mm of the base. The mattes are velvety, blendable, and dense without being thick or too heavy, and they have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation where a little can go a long way with some of the deeper and richer hues. The satin and pearl finishes are smooth, lightly creamy, and firmer but not dense or thick with good pigmentation, blendability, and easy application. The more metallic finishes tend to be softer, creamy, and smooth with a bit more denseness and no powderiness. The sparkly/glittery shades are often designed to be applied wet for richer coverage or intensity, which has largely been my experience. Most of the shades last between eight and nine hours. EleganzaEleganza is a bright, medium-dark mauve with warm, rosy undertones and a smooth, metallic sheen. The texture was incredibly smooth and cream-like without being overly thick or too-densely pressed into the pan, so it picked up beautifully with a brush and had excellent adhesion. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, where a little went a long way, that blended out easily on bare skin. It stayed on beautifully for nine and a half hours before showing signs of fading. Bronze Rose 005Bronze Rose 005 is a muted, medium copper with warm, more orange undertones with faint pink and gold shimmer woven more seamlessly through the metallic finish. It seemed like it might be a shade that shifted, but I didn’t detect any myself. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges. The texture was smooth to the touch and felt a little more baked, so it was firm without being too dense or difficult to pick up; it seemed slightly less yielding compared to most of the brand’s eyeshadows, though. It wore nicely for nine hours before fading slightly. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

Gold Lust 001Gold Lust 001 is a medium-dark gold with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It was a bit more sparkly and less metallic than most of the brand’s golds, though by no means a drastic departure from the half dozen (or more) already released to-date. The texture was smooth to the touch, slightly firmer and dense (so not powdery at all) but not stiff to work with, so the product picked up well with a dry brush and yielded full coverage in a single layer. This shade lasted well for 10 hours before fading a bit but had a smidgen of fallout over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Xtreme BurgundyXtreme Burgundy is a medium-dark burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had rich color payoff that adhered evenly and blended out with ease on bare skin–I was actually surprised with how easily the edges diffused. The texture was soft, velvety, and more substantial with a smidgen of powderiness in the pan, but it wasn’t prone to sheering out or having fallout during application. The color showed signs of fading after 10 hours of wear on me. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

Rose SeductionRose Seduction is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The finish became more shimmery when applied and blended out. It had opaque color coverage in a single pass, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The consistency was soft, lightly creamy but not too dense or too thick, and blendable. The color started to show signs of fading after 10 hours of wear, and while it was listed as a Pressed Pigment (aka not intended for the immediate eye area), it didn’t seem to stain my eye area. I had no trouble applying it with a blush or highlighter brush to use as a blush on face and had a similar wear time there. VR SextraterrestrialVR Sextraterrestrial is a multi-chrome that shifted from warmer, mauvy-plum to warmer pink-copper to olive-green. Straight on, it looked rosier and pinker, and then at certain angles or under certain lighting situations, the greener edge was apparent. The greener edge sometimes look warmer, more olive and cooler, more forest green twinkles. It had a bright, metallic finish that applied with opaque coverage as as shiny and intense of a finish regardless of dry or wet application. The shift was very noticeable in person; I didn’t have to contort my body to see it on myself, and it wasn’t something only onlookers could see! I could look at myself in the mirror and just tilt my head slightly and see the edge turn green or watch the green sparkles shift as a I moved. The eyeshadow applied evenly, blended out with ease, and lasted nicely for 10 hours before fading a bit. FYI, multi-chromes are more popular with indie brands, like Fyrinnae and Sydney Grace (for brands I’ve covered). Check out /r/indiemakeupandmore if you want to explore the world of multichromes. They are often $10+ even from indie brands, but if this is the one and only shade calling your name, maybe it’s time to give an indie a shot ? Astral Pink MoonAstral Pink Moon seemed to have a translucent base packed with peachy-gold shimmer and sparkle with larger flecks of pink and gold throughout. Per the brand, the shade is best applied with fingertips and built up as desired, which seemed to reflect its coverage; it was semi-sheer to medium, buildable applied with a dry brush and semi-opaque and buildable with a fingertip (or dampened brush). The consistency was as smooth as you might expect for something that was more shimmer/sparkle–like I could tell it was a more sparkly shade, but it wasn’t particularly chunky or gritty in feel. It had slight fallout during application if applied with a dry brush. The color applied evenly when pressed and patted into place–whether using fingertips or a brush–with good dispersion of the sparkles when blended lightly. It wore well for nine hours with slight fallout over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

via Temptalia https://ift.tt/3df8CgF This week, I shared my breakdown of how to make more critical comparisons between two products when you’re choosing between two options, whether you’re in decluttering mode or considering a new purchase or have been tempted by something new and shiny! Here are those methods applied to some of the recommendations I made in my A to Z Guide to Coral Blush. In that post, I included a variety of shades from light to dark, matte to shimmer, cooler to warmer and so on across different brands and price points. When I make recommendations, I’ll often provide more rather than less as they’re all great products but I want to make sure it’s helpful for more readers! Sydney Grace Cantata vs. Natasha Denona Alba

Reasons for Sydney Grace Cantata: It’s more affordable, so if budget was a concern, I’d go here and if I wanted to subdue the finish a bit, I’d dust translucent powder on top. It’s an intense highlighter, so if I was more in the market for something ultra-metallic and visible from the next galaxy over, Cantata is the easy choice. Reasons for Natasha Denona Alba: It’s more travel-friendly/consumer-friendly, since it comes in its own compact, so if either of these were important, they would be very much in the pro column. If I was looking for something that had a more moderate, more luminous finish or if I was heavier-handed, it makes more sense.
Bottom Line: They are quite comparable blendability, longevity, and ease of use, generally, and the biggest difference between the two is the intensity of the finish, followed by price and packaging. The difference in finish ultimately impacts both the tone and color as-applied and may make it more or less appealing for those with more textured skin. Essence Satin Coral vs. Persona Georgia

Persona Georgia Super Blush ($22.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a brighter pop of medium coral-orange with strong, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It... The Analysis
Reasons for Essence Satin Coral: It’s one of the cheapest blush options on the market, so if maximizing the budget is a priority, it performs comparably and well across many metrics but saves a lot of money. Essence’s packaging doesn’t feel flimsy either (packaging is often a big ticket item in a product’s cost!). It is slightly powdery (mostly in the pan), so it will work better for those with a light-handed application and less-dense (like a fan) brush. It is forgiving of heavy-handed application but the excess kicked up/lost might be deal-breaking. Reasons for Persona Georgia: For a true, skin-like finish where the color has a particularly seamless, almost “melted” appearance on skin, I think this formula succeeds better there. If you tend to be heavier-handed or use moderately-dense blush brushes, this formula is more foolproof when paired with either. Georgia is longer-wearing by a decent margin, which could be a very compelling reason to spend more.
Bottom Line: They are extremely similar in general application, blendability, pigmentation, ease of use, and packaging. Georgia has notably better longevity, but they both fade evenly at the end. If budget is less of a concern, the way Georgia sits on skin is what makes it more “special” as a product. Hourglass Incandescent Electra vs. Clinique Melon Pop

Clinique Melon Pop Cheek Pop Blush ($25.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had good color... The Analysis
Reasons for Hourglass Incandescent Electra: If you’re someone who has trouble using a heavier hand or tends to use more feathery brushes, this shade is a lot easier to apply. If you like a hint of shimmer, you may find this produces a better finish. Reasons for Clinique Melon Pop: If you find that you tend to over-apply your blush, the firmer, denser texture of this product is more forgiving of heavier handed application (though it actually requires a more medium-hand or denser brush!). If you tend to apply with denser brushes, this will also be more foolproof to use. There is also less waste as there’s no powderiness.
Bottom Line: They’re really comparable products; they’re both more buildable coverage, similar in color and finish, have the same longevity ratings, and come in plastic packaging. I think the type of formula may make some more or less interested as Melon Pop is a gel-powder hybrid that’s denser and Incandescent Electra is more like a traditional powder blush (and thus, a little powdery in the pan). via Temptalia https://ift.tt/2Xij55C Last week, Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer ($55.00 for 0.56 oz.) launched in four shades along with a new, all-matte eyeshadow quad. I had some (unresolved) issues applying and blending out Tan and Deep (what’s published is my second and third attempts respectively), so I have to dive into that a bit more. The other two are so light that it was harder to tell if they had similar issues, so I’ll be looking more closely at those as well. Summer 2020Gallery Options
