EngraveClionadh Engrave Glitter Multichrome Eyeshadow ($7.50 for 0.05 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a mix of pink and copper flecks of shimmer/micro-sparkle along with a shift that from brighter, cooler pink to warmer pink to golden copper paired with a sparkling, metallic finish. Per the brand, it had a “semi-sheer brown base with large glitter particles that shift from lilac-pink-orange-gold.” The shift was visible in person but more subtle-to-moderate in effect. The texture was soft, more loosely-pressed in the pan, so you’ll want to use a lighter hand, which the brand did advise to do, and press and pat the product on to avoid light fallout when working with a dry brush, though a fingertip or a dampened brush, which were how these were intended to be applied, yielded opaque, even results without fallout. It had mostly opaque coverage (in the form of shimmer), while the base itself seemed semi-sheer to medium in coverage–more noticeable if one sheered it out on purpose. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me with very faint fallout over time. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$7.50/0.05 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to "apply relatively easy to the lid when patted on with a finger," but for "maximum longevity and intensity, apply over a set primer" or a "tacky base" for "larger-particle glitters." The brand goes on to stay that this formula can be applied with "your finger or a shader brush sprayed with setting spray" and then patted onto the lid. They also warn not to "dig" one's brush as they are "more delicate" in texture. The base pigmentation varied from shade to shade, and the brand uses different particle sizes throughout the range, so some are finer and more pigmented and others may be more sparkly with a sheerer base. Keep in mind, the base being sheerer doesn't equate to a sheerer end product; the actual eyeshadows often appeared mostly opaque to opaque due to how packed they are with shimmer/sparkle--but it depended on the angle. They end up being a bit more like traditional eyeshadow, since the bases have various colors (not black or transparent) with multichromatic shifts that varied from more intense to subtler. I felt like they were "easier" to use than the Jewelled Multichromes, especially if you're someone who uses more than a few shades at a time, though they have less of a high-shine finish and more of a twinkling/sparkling finish. The texture was more loosely-pressed--definitely "delicate" as indicated by the brand--and worked best by patting or pressing onto the lid with a fingertip or a wet brush. They're still quite usable with a dry brush but definitely use a denser brush and a gentle pressing motion to pick up product. The texture itself was very soft, almost silky, and finely-milled; for has twinkling as the finish was, Clionadh's idea of "glitter" is more like fine sparkle. The big difference with this formula is that the sheerer base makes them easier to sheer out for an all-over wash of color on the lid or diffused on the brow bone, but they can also be pressed into place without heavy blending for an intense, spotlight effect. While setting spray or glitter glue would help to maximize longevity (by minimizing fallout over time), there was only light some fallout over time when pressed onto the lid with a fingertip and slight fallout applied with a dampened brush (wet with water) over eight to nine hours. The sparkles were finer and had better adhesion to bare skin, so the formula didn't need the most intense solution to minimize fallout in my experience. RayClionadh Ray Iridescent Multichrome Eyeshadow (Series 2) ($14.25 for 0.05 oz.) has more of a transparent base with an incredibly intense shift from lighter, golden peach to warmer pink to pink-coral paired with a twinkling, almost metallic sheen. Per the brand, it has a “nearly invisible base with colour shifting reflects that go from pink-red-orange-gold-lime.” The “lime” was the hardest part of the shift to really detect myself, but the others came through very, very readily. It had a transparent base as described, the color shifting pearl/shimmer delivered semi-opaque, buildable coverage (opaque if applied damp), though it could be sheered out if desired. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and more loosely-pressed in the pan but not to the point where it seemed prone to excess product kicked up (just use a light to moderate hand when picking up product). It wore well for nine hours before fading visibly. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$14.25/0.05 oz. - $285.00 Per Ounce For those who find more popular Multichrome formulas (often the ones with black bases) harder to incorporate into looks, the Iridescents are some of the more versatile Multichromes I've come across that offer intense, shifting effects whether they're used alone, sheered out, over an eyeliner, or patted over one's favorite eyeshadow. They are also a bit smoother and firmly-pressed into the pan with a, generally, finer shimmer/sparkle to them, so they are less fragile and prone to fallout. They work well with dry brushes, whether firmer or fluffier, along with fingertips and dampened brushes. The latter two methods yield more intense and metallic finishes and slightly more even application from the get-go. The majority of the shades had semi-opaque to opaque color coverage--more from the shimmer/shift as the bases are designed to be transparent--that blended out easily and stayed on well for eight to nine hours before fading. Boudoir NoirColour Pop Boudoir Noir 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($18.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, limited edition 12-pan palette that includes a mix of matte, shimmer, and glitter shades. The overall color story had a more muted, yellow-to-olive leaning to it, which made it a little less redundant compared to other neutral palettes released by the brand. The mattes were often pigmented but moderately powdery, so I’d definitely recommend applying one’s eyeshadow ahead of base products. The shimmers were drier and/or more loosely-pressed, so they were also prone to fallout and were better applied with a dampened brush.

Bedtime StoryBedtime Story has a transparent base and is chocked full of smaller particle iridescent glitter and darker, gold glitter with some larger, hexagon-shaped iridescent glitter. It did contain plastic (PET) glitter and came with a warning that it was not intended for use around the eye area, so I tested it as a cheek highlighter only. The texture was more emollient and could be pushed around in the pan but felt lightly tacky and had good dispersion when applied to the skin. It had medium to semi-opaque “coverage” from the amount of glitter in it. There was noticeable migration after seven hours of wear. Formula Overview$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours. The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. NapNap is a medium, golden bronze with muted, warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. The eyeshadow had rich color payoff paired with a slightly drier consistency that was hard to apply to bare skin evenly–I had a ton of fallout as the product didn’t want to stick. It was better applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush. It lasted nicely for seven and a half hours before fading a bit. Hot ToddyHot Toddy is a deep, olive green with muted, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage. It had semi-sheer color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly on my lips, though there was a smidgen of product that settled into my lip lines–it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The texture was smooth, more like a gel-like cream, so it had substance and some thickness but it wasn’t heavy or tacky. It wore well for two hours and felt hydrating over time. Formula Overview$14.00/0.13 oz. - $107.69 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have the "shine of a gloss" with the "comfort of a balm" and a "wash of milky color." It has a smooth, non-sticky texture that has more of a cream-gel like feel, as there was a more substantial, slightly thicker consistency but it wasn't heavy to wear. The coverage ranged from semi-sheer to medium, but the upside was that they went on evenly and comfortably. Most of the shades seemed to soften my lip lines rather than settle into them, which can be an issue with milkier finishes. They lasted between two and three hours and were hydrating over time. It had a creamy, sweet and lightly fruity scent--almost reminded me of salt water taffy in some sort of fruit flavor. Browse all of our Tower 28 ShineOn Milky Jelly Lip Gloss swatches. Quick Shop:OatTower 28 Oat ShineOn Milky Jelly Lip GlossTower 28 Oat ShineOn Milky Jelly Lip Gloss ($14.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium-dark, pink-peach with moderate, warm undertones and a milky, cream finish with moderate shine. It had semi-sheer color payoff in a single stroke, which applied fairly evenly but settled noticeably into my lip lines. It was the lightest and milkiest shade in the range that I tried, and it applied the least-flattering (though not a total surprise). The gloss had a smooth, lightweight consistency that was slightly thicker (but not tacky or goopy!), so it felt plush and comfortable while on. The powder took on a softer, more natural matte finish–so not shimmery or shiny but not totally flat–that was kinder to skin texture and seemed to make the product easier to blend out overall. It had buildable pigmentation from medium to opaque (two to three layers) with a smooth, more velvety texture that wasn’t too dense nor too softly-pressed into the pan. It lasted well for eight hours before fading slightly. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$14.00/0.18 oz. - $77.78 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to blend "effortlessly" and "build" to a "luminous matte" finish and "any intensity with ease." In general, they had medium, buildable coverage that easily built up to mostly opaque to opaque coverage. Per the brand, they recommend "tapping" rather than swirling one's brush, which I'd agree with for picking up more buildable pigment--swirling or heavier motions could yield more opaque coverage in one go (which could be desired). The texture was moderately dense, smooth, and not powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan, so the product picked up well with more feathery brushes as well as denser brushes. As I applied the powder and buffed it into my skin, they had a more semi-matte to natural matte finish--not flat or dry but not overly shimmery either. They looked more "melted" on my skin, which gave them a better and more flattering finish applied. They lasted between eight and nine hours on me before fading visibly. Formula Overview- The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well. The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me. Browse all of our Viseart Eyeshadow swatches. CarameliseCaramelise is a brighter, light gold with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a soft, more loosely-pressed texture, so it was easy to pick up more product than necessary, which resulted in excess product kicked up in the pan and some fallout. The eyeshadow applied evenly and blended out well. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.
