Trial and error for the most part! I read through some photo-by-photo tutorials here and there, but it was largely just trying to replicate the type of placements/styles I saw others posting on Livejournal’s mac_cosmetics community.
FortuneColour Pop Fortune 16-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($22.00 for 0.64 oz.) is a new warm-toned set of shades in various finishes and depths. I felt that the palette was cohesive, and it was slightly more red/plum-based compared to past ColourPop palettes (which have read more golden or more orange to my eye). For those who haven’t picked up palettes in similar color schemes, it would be a nice one to consider.

CREAMCREAM is a soft, light-medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was soft, smooth, and cream-like. It applied well to bare skin and blended out effortlessly. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$5.00/0.04 oz. - $125.00 Per Ounce The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours. The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush. Browse all of our Colour Pop Pressed Powder Shadow swatches. IngredientsBoron Nitride, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Lauroyl Lysine, Magnesium Stearate, Talc, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethiconol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492), Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891). BenBen is a light-medium, yellowed peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable with just a touch of powderiness in the pan. It had opaque color payoff that applied well to bare skin and stayed on well for eight hours on me. Top Dupes

OracleOracle is a soft, peachy gold with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was drier and more loosely-pressed, which resulted in sheerer color coverage that was better applied with a dampened brush. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me. Top Dupes

It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied fairly evenly to bare skin but was best applied in a pressing motion. JackpotJackpot is a medium-dark plum with warm, copper undertones and a metallic finish. This shade had an incredibly cream-like texture that felt almost like it melted upon touch! I was worried it might not apply well to bare skin or with brushes, but thankfully, I was wrong–it applied beautifully and lasted for nine hours on me. Top Dupes

Strike ItStrike It is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage that applied fairly evenly to bare skin but did take slightly more effort to diffuse and blend out compared to other shades in the palette–not bad at all for a deeper, matte shade like this in general, though. The color stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably. Top Dupes

OrgasmNARS Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm ($28.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light-medium pink with soft, warm gold pearl. It’s supposed to be a “sheer wash” of color with a “radiant finish” paired with hydrating ingredients (like monoi oil). The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and had a moderate amount of slip–in short, it felt like an emollient lip balm that slid around on my lips while worn (but was comfortable to wear). The base color was sheer as described, but it yielded a noticeable sheen, light shimmer, and a barely-there pink tint. For someone who has naturally pinker or redder lips, I wouldn’t expect much effect or impact, though. The formula was lightly hydrating, but I found I preferred a lot of other lip balms over this for actual hydration. The shine and most of the shimmer seemed to disappear within a couple of hours. I didn’t notice any scent or taste. Top Dupes

via Temptalia https://ift.tt/2Je8bHR Summer NightsFenty Beauty Summer Nights Iridescent Lip Luminzer Trio ($32.00 for 0.30 oz.) contains three iridescent glosses that are designed to “apply sheer” so they can be worn “solo for a prismatic wash of color” or over another lipstick “for endless new combinations.” I found that this trio was a little more pigmented than sheer–more like semi-sheer to medium in coverage. The gloss formula was smooth, non-sticky, and comfortable wear with decent longevity given that they were a sheerer, non-sticky formulation (tackiness usually helps improve wear times in my experience). I didn’t detect any scent or taste, but vanillin is listed as an ingredient, so I’d expect that those with better noses may detect a subtle vanilla scent.

Snake SkinSnake Skin is a medium, reddish-brown base with gold-to-green shifting pearl that gave it a more metallic finish. It had medium coverage, which looked more opaque from afar as the high-shine finish paired with the intense, reflective finish made it hard to detect the sheerness. The texture felt smooth, lightweight, and wasn’t sticky. It wore well for four and a half hours and was moisturizing over time. Top Dupes

Mermaid ThighsMermaid Thighs is a muted, medium-dark lavender with subtle, cool undertones and coo blue and lavender pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage that applied fairly evenly across my lips in smooth, fluid strokes. The gloss was lightweight, smooth without being tacky or thick, and easy to work with. It lasted for four hours and was hydrating while worn. Top Dupes

VaycrayVaycray is a medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and warmer gold and peach shimmer. It had sheer color payoff, as described, that applied fairly evenly and had good shimmer dispersion. There was a touch of product that sat in my deeper lip lines, though the glossy finish and reflective pearl hid it from visibility from a normal viewing distance. It wore well for four hours and was moisturizing while worn. Top Dupes

As a loose highlighter, the pigmentation was really in the amount picked up–it could be quite pigmented if applied with a fingertip or quite sheer if applied with a fluffy, fan brush. The color was much, much darker and warmer than any of the Orgasm products I’ve come across (to the point where I wouldn’t have thought it was in the family at all). Per the brand, the formula is supposed to give a “naturally glowing look” that can be used on the “face and décolleté.” The finish was softly luminous–very lit-from-within–when worn at sheer to medium coverage, but when worn at higher coverage or layered, it could look luminous to softly frosted. It was hard to overdo, though, and it did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture. The loose powder was finely-milled and easy to blend out, but a tip to help with application would be to lightly pick up product onto your brush, then swirl in the cap, which will help to distribute the product better on the brush for more even application on the cheeks (that then requires less blending). The highlighter lasted well for eight hours on me. Top Dupes

via Temptalia https://ift.tt/2La5CDF What Happens in Vegas (283)Sephora What Happens in Vegas (283) Colorful Eyeshadow ($8.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a soft, light-medium peach with strong, warm yellow undertones with flecks of larger, gold sparkle. It had semi-sheer coverage, but the major issue with this shade was that the sparkles didn’t bind with the base color, so they dropped during application and had little longevity. The texture was dense–too firm, so it became harder to pick-up product with my brush–and hard to work with. The base color seemed to last six hours, but what little sparkles translated onto the lid fell off within two hours of wear. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$8.00/0.04 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and wear for "10 hours" while being blendable and layerable. There are three finishes, and I found that the quality did differ depending on the finish more than anything else. The glitter finish was comprised of a mix of more matte and glitter-packed shades, where glitter would fallout during application and often were under-pigmented, along with denser, more silicone-heavy glittery shades with the latter applying and holding up better on the lid as it adhered better, though they typically didn't have great pigmentation. The matte eyeshadows were medium to opaque in coverage but often buildable with fairly soft, thinner textures with some powderiness, though there were some definite winners in the bunch. The shimmer eyeshadows were more often quite pigmented with moderately dense, smooth textures that were easy to use, but there were a few that had a little too much slip or were too dry and so application wasn't impressive without a dampened brush or an eyeshadow primer underneath it. The wear was between six and eight hours. Each eyeshadow can be lifted out of the compact by opening using the second opening along the bottom of the compact. The lip of the first opening is what keeps the eyeshadow in place within the compact itself. I thought it was clever and made for easy removal, though the overall component felt a little lightweight to the point that it did feel flimsy. These are a revamp of the previous Colorful Eyeshadow range, which ran for $10.00 but contained 0.07 oz. or $142.86/oz. while the new ones are $190.48/oz. I think these would be more viable if the price point was $6.00, which would have made them the same price per ounce as the previous formula. The $8.00 price point makes them more expensive than MAC and on par with Anastasia (both of which have more eyeshadow per pan, too), but the Sephora house brand has always seemed to priced below mid-end, so the price point on this doesn't quite make sense. I didn’t detect any scent or taste, but vanillin is listed as an ingredient, so I’d expect that those with better noses may detect a subtle vanilla scent.

SingleSingle is a light green with subtle, warm undertones and fine green and gold pearl. It had sheer coverage, as expected, which applied fairly evenly across my lips, but the shimmer didn’t disperse quite as well as the other two shades. From afar, it wasn’t noticeable, though. The gloss had a smooth, non-sticky texture that was comfortable and lightweight to wear. It lasted for three hours and was moisturizing while worn. Top Dupes
IngredientsHydrogenated Polyisobutene, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica, Mica, Phenoxyethanol, Vanillin, Tin Oxide, BHT, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 77019), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140). BilingualBilingual is a soft, peachy-orange with warm, yellow undertones and flecks of peach, pink, and gold sparkle and finer pearl. It had sheer coverage that applied without streaking, and the sparkles dispersed well across my lips, but there was a bit of product that sat in my lip lines, though I didn’t feel like it was noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The texture was smooth, thin without being too clingy, and comfortable on my lips. It wore well for three hours on me and was hydrating to wear. Top Dupes

Ready to MingleReady to Mingle is a medium-dark lavender with subtle, cool undertones and flecks of larger blue-to-violet sparkle and finer pink and blue pearl. It had sheer coverage but had a noticeable tint to the base, so it deepened my natural lip color and made it appear cooler in tone. The texture was smooth, lightweight, and comfortable to wear, as it was lightly hydrating over the four hours it lasted for. Top Dupes
