There are eight new shades in the YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) range for spring! YSL recently had an irresistible sale on their lipsticks, so I also picked up seven permanent shades from the Rouge Volupte range (shades Rouge Ballet through Smoking Plum below) that I hadn’t swatched before–I know this is a popular formula! InfraredTerra Moons Infrared Neon Matte Pressed Pigment ($6.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a vivid, pinky-red with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a soft, lightly powdery texture that had good adhesion to bare skin and blended out well. It stayed on well for nine hours but left a stain behind. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$6.00/0.05 oz. - $120.00 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to be "blendable" and "pigmented" with "a bit of kick up" when used due to being "pressed by hand." Some shades come with "additional information" such as being sheerer on the brand's website (for that particular shade) or to use a "glitter primer" due to the finish. I found that some matte shades were more noticeably powdery than others, but whether there was just a little bit of powderiness or more noticeable powderiness really depended on a shade. The neon shades were the most powdery and hardest to work with on their own; some had more specific tips/guidance on how to work with them, which I felt was great for disclosure, but it could get hard to remember what shade needs to be applied in such and such fashion since it really did vary a lot shade by shade. The darker and less neon matte shades tended to perform the best for me--more pigmentation, better blendability, and were easier to work with and were more consistent. Most shades--matte and more shimmery--were pigmented, easy to blend, and applied well to bare skin. They lasted between seven and eight hours with most closer to eight hours before fading (more of the mattes) or creasing (some of the more intense metallics). It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was buildable on most of my lips, but it was sheerer and overly emollient on the inner area of my lips. The consistency felt lightweight, thin, and more velvety, but it had moderate slip, which made it more prone to emphasizing my lip texture. It stayed on well for five hours and felt lightly hydrating. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$23.00/0.11 oz. - $209.09 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to "blur, smooth, and hydrate" with "intensity of a matte and the comfort of a cream" and delivers "ultra-pigment[ation]." The consistency reminded me of the more new-school "matte" formulas that feel velvety without wetness/shine--the ones that feel more silicone-heavy and primer-like, which are often thinner, too. I'd say that the new Rouge Artist formula has a little more traditional creaminess, so there was a satin shine (which was as marketed--satin finish!). The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and thin without feeling clingy. In the close-up photos, there were several shades that looked like there were little bits scattered on my lips, almost like it had pilled, though I didn't feel it when I pressed my lips together and couldn't see it in person. They had mostly opaque to opaque color coverage in a single layer. Most shades applied evenly and sat well enough on my lips, though there were some that emphasized my lip lines slightly. They wore for four to six hours on me with some of the very rich, deeper shades lasting a little longer than that. The formula felt mostly non-drying to lightly hydrating to me. There was a sweet, slightly floral scent that was noticeable on for the first few minutes, but I didn't notice any taste. Browse all of our Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) swatches. Mighty Maroon (420)Make Up For Ever Mighty Maroon (420) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020)Make Up For Ever Mighty Maroon (420) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) ($23.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium-dark burgundy with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had medium to semi-opaque pigmentation, which applied somewhat evenly, but the product did not seem to be mixed appropriately as I got little clumps of product all over my lips–visible in the close-up photo and not really noticeable nor something I could feel if I pressed my lips… but a great formula does not look that way on, close-up or not. The texture was lightly creamy, thin but not clingy, and had moderate slip. It lasted for five hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time. It had a very fluid consistency that was non-sticky and emollient, but it was just overly fluid and seemed runny. The product slid around my skin, especially during application, so it was one of the harder cream blushes I’ve had the unpleasant experience to test. These types of products are often billed as effortless, but I tried so many ways to get this to apply evenly and to build up coverage to no avail. It always had patchy areas where the color had moved around or lifted away, and this was true over bare skin as well as over foundation. It had sheer coverage, which wasn’t buildable, and showed signs of fading after five hours of wear. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$7.00/0.48 oz. - $14.58 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to have "buildable coverage" with a "hint" of dewiness that can be applied with fingertips, sponge, or a duo fiber brush and is recommended to be applied prior to powder products. I struggled to apply the formula, and I tried using fingertips, sponges, and various brushes both over foundation, under foundation, over bare skin, and even over powder (which is the opposite of what they say to do!). For me, it seemed like the issue was that there was way too much slip in the product, so instead of applying and blending out, the color just pushed around. It had the worst application when I used fingertips to apply, which I'd apply by patting and pressing the color (gently!) onto my cheeks and using the edge of my fingertip to soften. This is my go-to method with cream-based cheek colors, and it usually works, but I couldn't get the color to stay and place. I tried using a sponge, but the sponge seemed to absorb a lot of the color that it made it hard to get detectable coverage out of it. I found a stippling brush to work better, and I gently flicked the brush against my cheeks to deposit color, waited 10 seconds, and then tried to diffuse and even out the color. This worked somewhat and sometimes, but it did not always work, unfortunately, and when it didn't, there was almost no visible color. Since it seemed overly emollient, for the majority of my application attempts, I squeezed out product on the back of my hand, so I could swirl or pick up product as it had dried out a little bit, but this did not help much! The "best" method I found was to gently dab the product onto my cheeks using fingertips, let it sit for five to 10 seconds, then use a synthetic brush to soften the edges with the gentlest touch and only do each area once, and then leave it alone and accept whatever the outcome was. It did not play well with the various base products I tried--a mix of liquid foundations and tinted moisturizers, both set and unset--as it was prone to sliding them around or lifting them up. They were better over bare skin, but they were a real challenge to work with. They were also not buildable in my experience as this resulted in the first layer moving around and lifting away from the main area and leaving a raised edge of product. The consistency was very fluid to the point where it felt runny; it would slide down the back of my hand with the aid of gravity and do so quickly. It took awhile to dry down, and it was somewhat movable with light dewiness in its finish but wasn't tacky. They lasted around six hours on me before fading visibly. via Temptalia https://ift.tt/31CDYtv Rose Ruban (602)Chanel Rose Ruban (602) Joues Contraste Blush ($45.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The texture was firmer, slightly stiff in the pan, which was unexpected, and so the product was harder to pick up on my brush and didn’t apply as evenly over bare skin as this formula typically does. I found it necessary to apply it over set-foundation, as it tended to adhere more strongly to areas where I applied it first but not want to readily spread out for an even layer of product. It had semi-opaque color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. Once on, it stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly. Formula Overview$45.00/0.17 oz. - $264.71 Per Ounce The Joues Contraste formula is supposed to have “buildable coverage, from natural to dramatic” with a “flattering radiance” and “silky texture.” The pigmentation ranges from semi-sheer to fully opaque, depending on technique and skin tone, but it seemed exactly as described–buildable–without having to pile it on or spend too long sheering it out. The formula has an extremely smooth, silky consistency that blends out beautifully on the skin. Most shades wear around eight hours on me. The formula is rose-scented but the scent was largely undetectable applied (but noticeable in the compact). Browse all of our Chanel Joues Contraste Blush swatches. Cool BreezeCool Breeze is a bright, medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a moderately creamy texture that had glide but didn’t feel particularly wet, so it wasn’t slippery to work with and didn’t settle into creases as it was drying down. The product applied fairly evenly, but I needed to use a brush to get it to diffuse evenly as fingertips tended to pull up product as it dried down very quickly. It stayed on decently for seven hours before creasing slightly. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes
Formula Overview$0.02/6 oz. - $0.00 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to be "ultra pigmented" in "one swipe" while being "long wearing" and "water-resistant." There are two finishes: matte and metallic, and the initial release included two shades from each finish, so the overview is based on those four shades, which is not a ton of shades to go off of! One of the four pencils was drier, stiffer, and was prone to the point snapping off during application. The other three were creamier with the metallic shades being more emollient than the remaining matte shade. The pigmentation varied from shade to shade; it ranged from medium to opaque with some being more buildable than others. The performance was more consistent with three of the four shades applying comfortably with somewhat even initial layers. They were blendable for five to 10 seconds before they dried down to more budge-proof finish. They didn't feel heavy or clingy on my lids, and while they were creamy, they did not feel slippery as they were drying down so they did not settle into fine lines or creases during the dry down. I was able to apply them directly from the pencil to my eye area, but I found a brush gave me a more even application and helped me blend out the product without losing some of the coverage compared to application with a fingertip. The shades lasted between six and eight hours before creasing on me. Browse all of our ColourPop Metallic Shadow Stix swatches. Citrus SqueezeCitrus Squeeze is a rich marigold with warm, more orange undertones and lighter, more golden pearl that gave it a metallic finish. The texture was very emollient–it nearly skated off my arm when I first swatched as it had so much more glide compared to the first shade I tried–but was still quicker to set where working one eye at a time was ideal. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that layered fairly evenly, though it was imperfect close-up and looked slightly sheered out as well. There was creasing after six and a half hours of wear. Check PleaseCheck Please is a medium brown with warmer, more orange undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, which built up evenly when layered or applied as a larger area of color. The texture was lightly creamy, smooth, and wasn’t prone to tugging on my skin but didn’t settle into fine lines as it dried down. It set fairly quickly, so I’d recommend working one eye at a time and/or using a fluffy brush to diffuse the edge, which gave me a few more seconds to work compared to fingertips. It wore well for seven hours before creasing. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

Style and EaseStyle and Ease is a faded, medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which did not build up well as it was a drier, stiffer texture that just seemed to push product around rather than actually build up on itself. It was difficult to apply comfortably–easiest to use it as an eyeliner–and it was almost immediately “set” when applied, which made blending a nightmare. It creased after six and a half hours of wear. FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent). Top Dupes

It was richly pigmented where a little went a long way, and with the more emollient texture, it was easier to build up than it was to diffuse and sheer out if one over-applied. The consistency was creamy, smooth, and emollient with good spreadability and blendability, as it did not look like it settled into my skin nor did it lift up base products when I tested it over foundation. With this shade, I found a brush gave me more even, blended results with less effort (which was how I applied it for actual wear; in the photos, I used fingertips, and I have some post-acne marks that are making it look a bit less even than it was to my eye in person–sorry about the state of my skin!). I felt like fingertips worked well, but it just took a little longer to get the best result. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading. Formula Overview$22.00/0.14 oz. - $157.14 Per Ounce The product is primarily marketed as a cream blush, but the brand also stated that they can be applied to lips as well with some shades working as cream eyeshadow for a monochromatic look. There was nothing about coverage that I could find, though the brand's swatches--both live and in promotional images--were opaque. The formula was lightweight, moderately emollient, and slightly gel-like, which helped it spread better over bare skin and over base products. Most shades were not prone to lifting up base products and worked well with both fingertips and brushes for application. As the formula was more pigmented with most shades ranging from semi-opaque to fully opaque, I found brushes were particularly good at getting a sheerer, more diffused application, especially around the edges. If you want a sheerer effect, I'd recommend using less product and building up more as they were more pigmented than most cream-based blushes. They dried down to a more transfer-resistant finish, so they did not remain emollient, which helped them last longer on my skin. They could still be blended out once dry, and if I rubbed with a fingertip, product would transfer, but the color didn't lift away if I had to brush a stray eyelash or hair from my face (as examples). They still had a natural sheen on my skin, less than dewy but definitely not matte either! On average, they lasted eight hours on me with a couple of shades lasting a touch longer. I found the shimmer-less shades to last slightly longer in comparison to the shimmery shades, which were more emollient in the pan as well. Browse all of our Melt Cosmetics Cream Blushlight swatches.
