Generally, yes, because I very rarely swatch/test in stores and am just there to purchase (I’m not really browsing… more like a mission!). If I was planning to get color matched or wanted to try something on, I’d likely go with lighter makeup.
LunaAnastasia Luna Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a light-medium gold with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of silver, white gold, and gold pearl and larger sparkle. As expected based on the brand’s description of the new shade, it had sheer to semi-sheer color coverage with a moderate amount of sparkle paired with a glossy finish. There was a slightly milky quality to the underlying base, but it did not settle as badly in my lips as some of the other shades from the fall shades. The texture was smooth and lightweight, almost creamy, and comfortable to spread over my lips and to wear. This shade wore well for three hours and was lightly hydrating over time. Top Dupes

It had medium coverage, which was more than the other four shades in the range and more than described, but I think the higher coverage might have helped this look better on the lips as a standalone gloss. It settled slightly into my lip lines, but the shimmer, sparkle, and shine made it hard to notice it in person from a normal viewing distance. The gloss did not streak along the edges and had a smooth, mostly non-sticky texture. It lasted for three hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn. Top Dupes

VenusAnastasia Venus Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a soft, yellowed peach base with multi-colored flecks of sparkle and pearl. It had sheer coverage, just as expected based on the brand’s description, and had a moderate amount of sparkle/shimmer that gave the lips a reflective, shiny finish. The gloss applied evenly, but some of the base color settled into my lip lines, though wasn’t as noticeable from a normal viewing distance as the shininess helped hide it. The consistency was smooth, lightweight, spreadable, and mostly non-sticky, which made for comfortable wear over the three hours it stayed on well for. Top Dupes

Purp SmurfColoured Raine Purp Smurf Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium purple with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was slightly drier in consistency with a thinner feel, which made it on the dusty side. I found it had a tendency to cling to any dryness/texture on my lid, so I had to really buff and blend it out, and even then, there was slight patchiness. This particular shade would work better over primer and possibly over a translucent powder. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. This shade stayed on well for nine hours but left a faint stain behind, which disappear following my morning shower. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$6.99/0.06 oz. - $116.50 Per Ounce The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting and blendable." The majority of the shades were pigmented and long-wearing with some being very blendable and others requiring a little more effort, though they were, generally, workable and easy enough to use, particularly give the more matte finish and intense coverage/brightness. A few shades felt drier to the touch, almost grainy, which isn't uncommon in more red/pink-based shades, but this didn't seem to change the application. Most of the shades were lightly to moderately powdery, so I would recommend applying these prior to doing base makeup due to some fallout during application. The caveat is that several shades are "not intended for use around the immediate eye area," and these shades are: Crushin', Splash, Sauce, Party Drip, Bossed Up, Cute, Vibez, Level Up, and Purp Smurf (which makes Neo Blue the only one not on the list). Most products labeled "Pigment" but look like eyeshadows include color additives that are not approved for usage on the eye in the US (see FDA's additive list here) but other regions (typically Canada and the EU) do allow these ingredients on the eye area. In this instance, the Vivid Pigments can contain Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, and Red 27 Lake that are shown as a "no" for eye usage per FDA. Browse all of our Coloured Raine Vivid Pigment swatches. VibezColoured Raine Vibez Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was nearly opaque in a single layer, which was definitely buildable to fully opaque coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was slightly dusty in the pan, but the color applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. I didn’t have any issues diffusing and blending out this shade. On me, it wore well for eight and a half hours and didn’t seem to stain. Top Dupes

There was almost imperceptible micro-shimmer in it (I couldn’t see it in person, only in the close-up photos I took), which seem to be included to improve blendability in some matte shades. It was richly pigmented with a soft, slightly powdery texture, but it blended out well on my skin and lasted for nine hours. This shade stained very slightly on me, but it came off after my morning cleanse the next day. Top Dupes

CuteColoured Raine Cute Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium lavender with warm, pink undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, somewhat powdery, but it blended out easily and applied evenly to bare skin. The eyeshadow sheered out a bit when I tried to work with it as a lid shade, but it didn’t turn patchy or darken too noticeably without primer. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me before it started to fade noticeably. Top Dupes

The two lipsticks were good, while the lipgloss was more cream-based and pulled into some of my lip lines, which may or may not be a deal-breaker for you. The set has a value of $54.50, which makes it worthwhile if you think you’ll enjoy at least two of the shades (but really, preferably all three!). Sweet as PieSweet as Pie is a medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, but the color did gather in my lip lines due to the creamier, milkier quality of the color and texture of the gloss. The consistency was lightweight but thicker in feel and was moderately tacky (in line with Lipglass generally). It lasted for four hours on me and was lightly moisturizing over time. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$17.50/0.10 oz. - $175.00 Per Ounce The Lipglass formula is supposed to be “pigmented, very shiny and can impart subtle or dramatic color” that can be worn “on its own, over lip pencil or lipstick” and will “condition lips.” MAC could use an update on the description as some shades are more pigmented than others but several are sheerer and likely intended to be that way. The formula has a very glossy, high-shine finish with a light-medium weight and moderate tackiness. I have found that newer Lipglasses (over the last couple of years) are smoother and not quite as tacky as the formula was many years ago. They wear from three to six hours on me and are usually lightly hydrating. MAC recently updated the shade range and packaging for the range (though the formula was said to be unchanged), so worth noting is that with that packaging change came a reduction in quantity to 0.10 fl. oz. (was 0.17 fl. oz.), which may matter for some but not everyone. Browse all of our MAC Lipglass swatches.

Pink AddictPink Addict is a light-medium pink with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. Per the official color description, it’s a “sheer deep pink,” so the semi-sheer coverage seemed to be in line with that. It was somewhat buildable to medium to semi-opaque coverage. The texture was lightly emollient with slight slip but not enough thickness to feel slippery on my lips while worn. There were larger sparkles in it, among all the pearl, though it did not feel gritty on me except at the end of the three and a half hour wear time, I could tell there was glitter on my lips. The formula was non-drying while worn. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$18.50/0.10 oz. - $185.00 Per Ounce MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying. Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying. The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste. Browse all of our MAC Lipstick swatches.

It didn’t seem like it had much color, but it seemed to turn my lips a coppery-brown shade along with adding a fair amount of sparkle and micro-glitter. As a result, it ended up appearing deeper and more pigmented applied than swatched and in comparison to other sparkling golds Bite’s released in the past. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage (to about medium coverage) with a fairly smooth, emollient texture that was thinner and less creamy compared to the standard Amuse Bouche shade. I didn’t find it gritty during application, and I only started to feel the sparkles in the last hour of wear (but to me it never felt rough/gritty/otherwise bothersome). This shade lasted for four hours and was lightly hydrating. P.S. — I think this is the first time I’ve actually had a lipstick arrive melted — I could actually see where the lipstick tip sunk into the rest of it! Strangely enough, the lipstick was packed on its side in the box, but it melted right-side up as there was no product inside the cap. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$26.00/0.15 oz. - $173.33 Per Ounce Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.15 oz.) is supposed to have “bold, creamy color” with “extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear.” The majority of the range is very pigmented–typically opaque with one pass–with a few shades being semi-opaque but usually buildable. All 34 shades are shimmer-free and vary being a soft satin finish to a natural finish (light shine but not glossy). The consistency is very lightly creamy to lightly creamy with some shades requiring light-medium pressure and can pull the lip a bit when gliding it across the lips, though the color doesn’t appear ragged and the bullet itself doesn’t feel stiff (while other shades applied without tugging, so check individual shade reviews!) The majority of the shades I’ve tested have been lightly hydrating to non-drying and fairly comfortable to wear for the long-haul. They wear longer than average, from four to eight hours, depending on the intensity and propensity of the shade to stain. Browse all of our Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick swatches. It had opaque pigmentation with a smooth, dense consistency that was firm to the touch (no powderiness!) and was best used with a moderately dense highlighting brush (I used a slew of tapered ones with the formula just fine). The highlighter applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin, blended out with ease, and didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It seemed a smidgen lighter than the shade in the previous formula, but on my skin, it was hard to tell. This shade lasted well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$48.00/0.21 oz. - $228.57 Per Ounce It's a new line of powder highlighters that are supposed to give the "face a multidimensional glow" with a "high concentration of shimmering pigments." It's an update on their previous Luminizers but with lighter-weight packaging (and no included brush, which wasn't anything to write home about anyway!) and a lower price. The ingredient list seemed to be the same, and by touch, they seemed to be nearly the same--I felt like the updated version seemed a smidgen drier/more firmly pressed but it was barely noticeable and a couple were a little lighter/darker swatched but may simply have reflected more or less light in the particular shot as there was little difference on my skin. They had medium to opaque color coverage that applied well, lasted for eight hours, and blended out easily. The texture was denser, smooth to the touch, but firmer (so no powderiness) but require a moderately dense brush and/or medium hand to pick up product. via Temptalia https://ift.tt/2Kdhu7a AstrologyColour Pop Astrology Supernova Shadow ($7.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a bright, medium gold with subtle, warm undertones and a highly-reflective, metallic sheen. It’s like a “cooler” gold, but it doesn’t lean silver or get into pewter territory, so it still read warm-toned overall. It had rich, opaque pigmentation in a single layer, and a little went a long way, which I preferred to apply using a small, flat synthetic brush as it gave me more control over how much and wear it applied. The eyeshadow blended out nicely without losing its coverage. The texture was smooth, almost like a mousse but rather thin (but not watery!) and dried down fast enough not to settle into my lines but gave me enough time to work with it. On me, it stayed on well for over 10 hours. Top Dupes
Formula Overview$7.00/0.17 oz. - $41.18 Per Ounce Per the brand, the formula is supposed to be a "super longwearing liquid shadow" that can be used as "an all over base color, a touch of glitter, or extreme metallic foil" with "high coverage" and "no fall out." They were quite pigmented, and they sheered out a bit as liquid and cream products do as you diffuse the edges. The liquid eyeshadows applied better with an exterior applicator, whether synthetic brushes or fingertips (though I'd recommend swiping product onto a clean palette or brush rather than directly onto fingertips!). The wand applicator makes it hard to apply with precision and worked best for all-over, one-and-done application. The formula felt watery and thin, and it spread out decently, but there was a lot of fine and larger shimmer/sparkle without a strong base color, so they tended to look better and more even in person as the shimmers reflected light. They dry down fast enough that I could diffuse and blend edges but not so slow that it pulled into my creases as it dried down. I found that they tended to breakdown from teary or watery eyes, as I always noticed gaps or missing pieces where I might water more (inner and outer corners) but did not have that issue elsewhere (like the lid). I think the more glittery shades worked best as something layered on top of other products and not as much on their own unless used as liner--they seem to do okay as a thin line, likely due to the fact that it's just a lot harder to see any imperfections when the line itself is thin. More metallic, less sparkly/glittery, shades seemed to work best alone (as they were quite pigmented, too, so they didn't lend themselves well to layering). I didn't have much fallout over time but occasionally, there was a small chunk of product that dropped (rather than a few stray glitters). I also felt like the smoothest application was with fingertips as a brush seemed to make the product more likely to clump up or accentuate lid texture. It was richly pigmented and had a soft, blendable texture that was a little drier to the touch, but it applied evenly and was easy to diffuse. It wore well for eight and a half hours before it started to fade. Top Dupes
Level UpColoured Raine Level Up Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage that was opaque after two layers. The texture was drier and more firmly-pressed in the pan compared to other shades, so it could have blended a bit more readily, though it wasn’t too troublesome to work with. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me.
Yacht LifeColoured Raine Yacht Life Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque, while the texture was drier and a bit thinner, which made it harder to work with on my lid as it was harder to diffuse and blend out. On me, it lasted for just over eight hours on me before I noticed fading. Top Dupes

Drip DropColoured Raine Drip Drop Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, medium blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The consistency was somewhat powdery, so I would recommend tapping away excess and applying prior to any base products. It had good color payoff that sheered out a touch when I applied it to my lid, but it was buildable (and even easier to work with over primer). This shade wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade. Top Dupes

Neo BlueColoured Raine Neo Blue Vivid Pigment ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a bright, cobalt blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The texture was slightly dusty and a bit drier than I’d expect, but I didn’t have any trouble applying or blending out this shade on my skin. The color stayed on well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably. Top Dupes

Jet SetColoured Raine Jet Set Eyeshadow ($6.99 for 0.06 oz.) is a medium-dark periwinkle with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage, which was harder to build up as the color had a tendency to sheer out to the more powdery consistency. I found it most workable when I used it to diffuse some of the deeper purples/blues in the collection, and then it worked nicely, but as a lid shade, it would likely need a white base to perform true-to-pan. This shade lasted nicely for seven hours on me before starting to look a bit patchy. Top Dupes
